Sunkist Sectionizer

Return to Product Reviews

It is the little things that clients remember, whether first walking through your door or as a regular coming in for a workout. There was a time one of our staff members recalls when an exercise facility had a basket of oranges on the counter, donated by a local produce business that likely had a surplus and made a donation for the exposure. The oranges were free to those who came and went and the gesture was talked about throughout the gym. Nothing like this is done to any extent and it is an idea that fitness facilities should exploit.

Rather than whole fruit, we recommend a platter of sliced fruits and vegetables. Most people will eat only 2-3 pieces at most and a platter will last a good part of the day, particularly for private 1-2-1 facilities. Certainly this can be costly, and so 1-2 times per week would suffice, on the busiest days and/or at peak hours of business. A possibility is to network with a local produce supplier by offering the supplier's business cards or a counter-top sign that indicates from where the produce came. The produce supplier then would barter the advertising for the fruits and vegetables.

The next step in this promotion is to have some means of slicing the fruits and vegetables. Although a cutting board and knife will suffice, doing so is timely and fruit juice all over one's hands requires regular clean-up, particularly when greeting clients and shaking their hands. A recommendation is to invest in the Sunkist Sectionizer, a device used by restaurants and grocery stores to create various sized wedges and slices for food dishes, vegetable platters, salads, or for sampling. The Sectionizer has available seven different stainless steel blades, one of which cores and slices apples like a knife through butter. And use is as simple as placing in a fruit or vegetable, pulling down on the plunger-like handle, and catching the slices in a bowl. Clean-up is very simple: the blades are dishwasher safe, but can be rinsed under hot water and the Sectionizer only needs to be wiped down at the end of the day. Highly recommended and fun to use, details, recipes and more can be found at http://www.Sunkist.com or go directly to the equipment section at http://www.sunkistfs.com/equipment/sectionizer.asp. Also look into the Sunkist juicer, an ideal companion for fitness facilities that have beverage bars.
