Like a multi-vitamin, people supplement their diets for reasons of 'insurance,' and the fitness crowd certainly is no different as they consume protein-based shakes and foods in the hopes that muscle growth will be supported. Others may consume such products for reasons of convenience, when they don't have time to prepare a snack or meal, or perhaps they want a lower kcal substitution during a period of fat loss. Whatever the reason for consuming a protein supplement, we believe Pro-Stat 64 to be the best of its kind, a liquid protein of the highest caliber and quality.

This product was developed by a company founded in 1970, Medical Nutrition USA, Inc., originally (and still) manufactured as a nutrition-medicine product for sale to long-term care facilities, hospitals, dialysis clinics, bariatric surgery clinics, and physicians. Suffice it to say that the company's long history and purpose for this product ensures 'clinical' quality. In fact, the president of this company, Arnold Gans, did the original studies and formula of the first Dexatrim® product and was on the formulation team for the original Slim Fast®.

Pro-Stat is covered by 3 patents for nutritional support for protein deficiency, treating protein deficiency, and cancer cachexia nutrition support (with a fourth patent pending for nutritional support to treat pressure ulcers and bed sores). It is manufactured under a unique, proprietary method of fully hydrolyzing collagen protein by the use of fruit enzymes (papain) to achieve a shelf-stable liquid in amino acid/poly-peptide form. It does not have to be refrigerated once opened.

Clinically tested and evaluated by the "CNR" (Center for Nutritional Research) at the New England Deaconess Hospital - Harvard Medical School, it has been concluded that Pro-Stat formula was uniquely engineered with the highest concentration of protein in the smallest volume (15g per 30 ml). With one of its functions to accelerate wound healing, its role in muscle development and maintenance (particularly those who undertake very intense strength training while remaining lean or when dieting) should be obvious.

Pro-Stat™ is in liquid form and ready to use; it does not need to be mixed (although it could be added to fruit juices or nutrition shakes to increase protein content). A single ounce dose contains 15 grams of hydrolyzed protein (super easy digestion without any 'milk' bloat), and only 60 calories per serving, none of which come from carbohydrates or fat. Pro-Stat™ 64 is sweetened with sucralose (SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener), which is non-nutritive, and contains no dyes. It is available in wild cherry, butter pecan and honey almond flavors.

As stated, Pro-Stat 64 is a collagen-based protein, which means that tryptophan is added since collagen is missing that one essential amino acid. The addition of tryptophan to Pro-Stat makes it a complete protein. So essentially, the body can utilize the amino acids where it needs them: for wound healing, growth and maintenance of muscle or bone, hormones, antibodies, etc.

In regard to protein quality, not even whole egg protein is as good. When comparing 100 grams of protein of Pro-Stat to 100 grams of whole egg protein, Pro-Stat exceeds the essential amino acid content of whole eggs (which have a high PER and NPU). It also exceeds the adult requirement for amino acids by about four times (per 100 grams protein).

Pro-Stat contains essential amino acids and conditionally essential amino acids for those in a stressed state. Because it is in the form of poly-peptides and amino acids, it is easy for anyone to digest. In addition, arginine, glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline contained in the product are high nitrogen producers and have been shown to optimize wound healing and help preserve lean body mass.
