Turning Back is the autobiography of Brian D. Johnston, President
and founder of the I.A.R.T. This book includes stories and insights
over his last twenty years, how he became obsessed with bodybuilding,
his influences, mistakes made, and much more. In fact, a vast
majority who read this book thought they were reading their own
life story. Apparently the manner and means in which many of
us get involved in exercise is common, including low self-esteem
that is easily influenced.
Media
and Hero-worship Influence
No Turning Back chronicles
Brian's first glimpse of a muscle magazine, his first exercise
tools (a Bullworker and spring set), and even his measurements
within months of exercise. Have you tried following the professional
bodybuilder routines in magazines? Brian has, and he kept it
up for nearly a decade before making changes that had a profound
influence on his progress and muscular development. It took him
ten years because he hung out with the 'wrong crowd,' training
with people who abused anabolic steroids and who could tolerate
such exercise. Ignorance about drugs and training with a Mr.
Canada competitor created confusion and frustration. Read about
how and when his epiphany occurred.
More
than an Autobiography
No Turning Back includes
more than entertaining stories and yarns. Brian speaks on the
subjects of getting certified, working at a MedX clinic, magazines
and expectations, supplements, personal training, observations
on what caused/stimulated muscular mass, speed of movement/cadence,
lockouts and pauses during a set of exercise, and he provides
excerpts from his training journals over the years.
