Tactical Fitness: Rules of Advanced
Gym Warfare
The IART Personal
Trainer Certification institute is developing a new book.
To explain its background, whether dealing with politics, business
and economics, or any other facet in life, the greatest gains
are realized when 'war' is declared, and that's exactly what
you need to do in the gym - intelligent mental and physical strategies
to make physical changes and to enjoy the adventure of pumping
the iron like never before. In effect, this book deals with the
psychology and strategic directions of exercise, based on fundamental
rules of waging war. For details, click

IART Research
The IART Personal
Trainer Certification institute is
working on two projects for the Journal of Applied Fitness. First,
we have done sufficient experimentation to know that exercise
is selective, in that training one part of a range of motion
does not have an equal effect elsewhere. This is why if you want
to be strong in the top half of a leg extension, for example,
then you have to work that aspect of the exercise. This research
will deal with the recovery of muscles. Arthur Jones concluded
that the mid-range of an exercise recovers faster than at the
points of stretch and full contraction. Although we has just
begun collecting some data, this has held true thus far. Again,
this further evidence that exercise is selective and that there
is strong support for training in zones over the full range of
movement, as per JReps.
Our second research project deals
with the neck. We acquired a MedX 4-way neck machine (www.CoreSpinalFitness.com),
and are treating accident victims with chronic neck pain. These
people have received several months (even a few years) of traditional
chiropractic and physiotherapy treatment, with either little
or no benefit. We plan on working with these individuals for
at least 12 weeks and will be collecting strain gauge force testing
to determine functional change, as well as pain/function questionnaires
to address subjective factors.
Personal Trainer in a Box
Personal training is time consuming when done properly, since
one has to account for aspects of exercise, nutrition, and client
motivation. Personal Trainer in a Box Professional Edition, by
www.CompleteTrainingSystems.com,
provides many useful resources that will help to save a PT plenty
of time and make his or her job more efficient. For details on
this product, and all it offers, including meal plans, recipes,
etc., for diets ranging from 1200-2400 kcalories, click

Bowflex Ultimate 2
The IART Personal
Trainer Certification institute will experimenting with the
Bowflex Ultimate 2 in the near future. We were very pleased with
the original Ultimate, and can't wait to try out the latest innovations
of this product, such as a squat station with back support, a
preacher curl attachment, and a cable system that does not require
change-up of the cables! Once we develop our report, we'll post
the details on our site. We're also happy to announce that Bowflex
has donated a Bowflex Extreme 2 for our Fitness Clinician
of the Year competition (winner to be selected January 2007).
